An illustrated lecture in which David Elias will reflect on what he learned whilst writing his book Shaping the Wild, which explored issues around farming and conservation by focussing on one very particular farm in Eryri (Snowdonia). In the lecture he will cover cultural and political dimensions as well as wildlife and conservation including more recent developments.

David has been a naturalist since childhood and worked in nature conservation for nearly 30 years. He first came to Wales in 1975 and subsequently lived in Llanuwchllyn, near Bala, for 35 years before moving to Machynlleth in 2019. Ever since his work on the Berwyn Mountains in the 1980s David has retained an interest in how wildlife and farming can co-exist in upland Wales.
