The Tabernacle was converted in the mid-1980s from a Wesleyan chapel into a centre for the performing arts. Since then, MOMA Machynlleth (known as MOMA Wales until 2016) has grown up alongside it in seven beautiful exhibition spaces.

Throughout the year MOMA Machynlleth presents exhibitions showcasing modern and contemporary Welsh art and artists. This includes exhibitions of the Tabernacle Collection and works on loan from other public and private collections. In July, selected entries from the Tabernacle Art Competition are exhibited, and in November our highly acclaimed Young Welsh Artists exhibition takes place.

MOMA Machynlleth is part of the wider programme of cultural activities presented in the Tabernacle. This includes the annual Gŵyl Machynlleth Festival, and independently promoted concerts and talks. The Tabernacle acts as a receiving house for events including The Machynlleth Comedy Festival and a wide variety of classes, workshops and learning activities also take place.

The Centre is also available to hire year-round.
