The group has been active since 2000, and over 75 sculptors have shown with the group since that time. The title reflects the main intention of Sculpture Cymru : they are all makers based in Wales, this is where they live and their work reflects and celebrates the various ideas that they understand and that inform their lives.

A recent exhibition, in Barry, involved members asking a guest sculptor to show with them. For some this was their first opportunity to show with the group. Sculpture Cymru members attach great importance to an individual approach, concerned with the physicality of sculpture and its practice. They engage with a range of media, such as wood, stone, bronze, iron and mixed media, using various processes such as carving, fabricating and casting. Their explorations of their chosen material offer ways of addressing issues of audience, community, choice of subject and the importance of the everyday understood as source, inspiration and reference. The group considers that sculpture is an art form that crosses over disciplines and lends itself to exploring new ways, new technologies and new approaches.

Sculpture Cymru hopes that visitors will be intrigued by the diversity of the work on show and find their own points of reference to the continuing and ever-changing world to which we are all subject.
