Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet closes this celebratory concert, a piece full of inventive melodies. Mozart loved the clarinet, what was at the time a new instrument, enjoying its warm voice-like tones and using it here in an almost operatic way. Our closing concert also includes Respighi’s intensely expressive and rich sunset-inspired work and Schumann’s third quartet, by turns sweetly romantic, jaunty and moving. The afternoon is completed with music from Mendelssohn.
