Vicky Ellis is a weaver who lives in Aberarth, a major centre for ship building in the 1800s, along with Derwenlas not far from Machynlleth. Schooners, brigs, and ketches were given names of their owner’s wives or ones such as Friendship, Resolution, Hope, Union, and Harmony that reflected sentiments of the time and is apt for today. Some of those ships were wrecked and their mariners lost. Woven Memories is a series of weavings hung in the sculpture space that will memorialise with names and dates stories from that time.
