Artist Weaver, Vicky Ellis, takes us back to a time when a hamlet, Derwenlas, near Machynlleth was a thriving estuary port and a centre for shipbuilding. Its history mirrors the changes brought about by the industrial revolution to small rural communities, with the coming of the railway being just one of them. Vicky incorporates names and words into dramatic weavings that give us poignant glimpses into the lives of ship builders, until everything changed when the railway arrived, and Derwenlas was no longer a viable port.
