Originally from Cornwall, Tim Hannigan is now based in the west of Ireland. He is the author of several narrative history books, including A Brief History of Indonesia and the award-winning Raffles and the British Invasion of Java. He is also an experienced travel guidebook writer, covering destinations across South and Southeast Asia. His most recent book is The Travel Writing Tribe: Journeys in Search of a Genre, and he is currently working on a travel book about Cornwall.

Find Tim at the Tabernacle on Saturday 27th November as he asks questions such as where can travel writing go in the 21st century? And is it ever okay for travel writers to make things up? Tim Hannigan shares stories from his quest to answer these questions, through conversations with some of the greatest living travel writers, and explorations of the genre’s often murky past.
