Schubert’s tragically beautiful String Quintet crowns this concert. Every movement is sublime, from the graceful cello duet in the opening to the rhythmic attack of the finale. The emotional heart of the piece is the poignant and transcendent slow movement. Earlier you’ll hear Ravel’s indulgent string quartet and Haydn’s String Quartet in D major, full of the composers trademark cheeky wit and invention.
