The Welsh landscape, in all its variety, is at base just as much a human cultural creation as a natural phenomenon: its raw materials evolved alongside the humans that have lived there since the ice receded. In this lecture Carwyn will present the Welsh cultural lens on some of our familiar landscapes and ask how holding on to this lens can help with work to revivify Welsh landscapes in the future.

Carwyn is an author, public speaker, gardener and naturalist from Carmarthen. His book Tir: The Story of the Welsh Landscape (2024) takes a deep dive into the creation and ecology of different types of habitats within the Welsh landscape, while his publication Cynefin: Wisdom from a thousand years of Welsh Nature Poetry (2026) looks at the long cultural relationship between land and people. His works seeks to illustrate how language and food are woven together in Wales.
