Susannah Royle Lester lives and works in Pembrokeshire. A land, like so much of Wales, full of history, and legend. Surrounded as it is by the rugged contours of the cliffs, stones and the always changing sea. For her, this atmosphere lies too, in perfect unity with Greek myth. Perhaps a chillier version, but very much there when she walks the cliff paths. An interweaving of Greek mythology breaking through and into everyday life, often going off at a tangent. Sometimes an analogy. An image that resonates perfectly with the present.

When exploring this exhibition you will not find figurative paintings of gods, goddesses and nymphs. The intention for this work is to lay it side by side with what comes from Susannah’s life in real time.

There will also be balanced stones that stand alone.

The spiral form of the yellow snail shells Susannah found on St David’s Head, were recognized by the Greeks as a recurring sacred natural pattern. Representing the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of a safe haven.
