Derek Johns has been a bookseller, an editor, a publisher and a literary agent. He was Jan Morris’s agent for twenty years, and after his retirement, he wrote Ariel: A Literary Biography of Jan Morris, which was published by Faber in 2016. Derek is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has served as a trustee of English PEN and as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Booker Prize Foundation.<\/p>\n

Paul Clements is a literary journalist and the author of five discursive travel books about Ireland. He has written a critical study of Jan Morris, published in the Writers of Wales series, and in 2006 edited a Festschrift in honour of her 80th birthday. He is the author of the biography Romancing Ireland: Richard Hayward 1892-1964, which was adapted for BBC television and is working on a biography of Jan Morris, Life from Both Sides, to be published in the spring of 2022.<\/p>\n

Having both spent many years working individually with Jan, Derek and Paul will be sharing stories and anecdotes about her life and the important role of writing her biographies. See them at the Tabernacle on Saturday 27th November at 10 am.<\/p>\n
