MOMA Machynlleth are pleased to announce three new works to the Tabernacle Collection by the late Michael D N Hunt.<\/p>\n

Michael was born in Bromley, Greater London, on 1 July 1931, the son of a general medical practitioner. During the war he was evacuated to Wales, where he attended primary school before pursuing a career as a highly respected equine veterinary practitioner, in Newmarket.<\/p>\n

Michael was a naturally gifted artist. In what spare time he could find, he began painting in a highly skilful figurative style, but continuously challenged himself to explore new \u2018Ways of Seeing\u2019, as John Berger called it, and moved through impressionism to post-impressionism. By the time of his retirement, he was exclusively painting large format, abstract impressionist works.<\/p>\n

After retiring Michael and his wife Lorne moved to his beloved North Wales, the ancestral land of his fathers, where they enjoyed the peace, tranquillity and relative isolation of the rugged Gwynedd mountains. He learnt Welsh and won first prize in a National Eisteddfod for a literary entry. He also developed a studio and found more time to paint and to watch and support the local wildlife.<\/p>\n

Michael continued to paint daily until his hospital admission. Following a short illness, Michael passed away on 13 May 2023 aged 91. MOMA Machynlleth are extremely grateful to Rob Pilsworth and Michael’s family for the gift of the three abstract works. We plan to feature these works in a Tabernacle Collection exhibition, alongside some of our other abstract works, later this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
