Imphal, Kohima and the Naga Hills

80 year’s on from the Burma campaign, the ‘Forgotten Army’ and Britain’s greatest ever battle.

A personal reflection from diary entries and letters of the late Hugh Parry, 28th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. Imphal, 1942 – 1944.

Having stumbled across a bundle of his father’s letters sent from the battlegrounds of the ‘Forgotten Army’ (1943 – 1945) to his parents in Machynlleth, John Parry toured the Nagaland battle sites, led by Dr Robert Lyman, in November 2023.  This illustrated talk is a mix of the official records, rarely seen, and personal letters from a 24-year-old Welsh anti-aircraft gunner set alongside a personal account of modern day Nagaland 80 years on from what was declared, in 2013, as Britain’s greatest battle.
